From a robbery, to causing an Amarillo elementary school to lock out all visitors, to a short negotiation, Amarillo Police definitely had their hands full with this case.  A domestic violence call on the 4200 block of Roxton is what started it all, where officers were advised that a male suspect had broken into a house and pointed a gun at the female occupant.

From there, the case spiraled into a series of events, ending with APD officers and SWAT officers in negotiation.  The official release says it best...

Amarillo Police

"Upon arrival officers learned that the male had already left the area but was still in possession of a handgun. Officers also had information that the male had made comments about going to a nearby elementary school and picking up his child. That school was contacted and was recommended to lock out all visitors until the male could be located. After a few hours of checking and not locating the male suspect the school was re-contacted and told them they could resume normal visitation procedures. At approximately 3:00pm, APD officers and SWAT team members determined the suspect was in a motel in the 7400 block of Amarillo Blvd West. Officers made contact with the occupant of the room and after a short negation, the suspect agreed to come out. The male was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered from the motel room. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment for his injuries that he suffered while breaking into the residence on Roxton. He is identified as Christopher Keith Chesser W/M 35 of Amarillo. Chesser was later transported and booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of Burglary with intent to commit assault on a family member."
