One of the smartest things you can do in your life is get an education, then find something you love and find a way to get paid doing it.  One of the stupidest things you can do in your life is point a gun at police officers.  Nuff' said?  After an Amarillo man pointed a gun at officers, he's lucky he didn't get shot, because "sweeping" an officer with a loaded gun is plenty of reason for them to pull theirs out and unload.  I'm not saying this as in they're "trigger happy", when you're a cop and someone points a gun at you, they're probably going to shoot.

The fact of the matter is, every situation a police officer enters is unpredictable.  A routine traffic stop can transform into an officer's life being put on the line in a split second.

So let's preface this story...

Last Friday (11/7/14) at 10:47pm, officers were sent to the 2200 block of S. Polk on a possible Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon.  When they arrived in the area they spoke with a victim who stated that a male companion had threatened him with a firearm.

According to the victim, they had allowed this person to stay with them until he was financially stable enough to support himself.  The victim said his wife called and told him the male was acting very strange and she wanted him to leave, so he went home to do what his wife told him, because that's what we do as husbands.  I know this isn't on  your typical "honey do" list, but it's still something the man of the house should handle and not the woman, unless she's one bout it babe.

As the male victim went to the house to confront the individual, the male guest pointed a semi-automatic handgun at him and threatened to shoot him.  The homeowner took off and ran to a nearby business and called the police, I guess fight or flight kicked in.  It kicked in hard too, being that he left his wife in the house with this armed individual.

"As officers were driving towards the residence, they observed a W/M sitting on the porch. The officers put a spotlight on the subject and the male subject pulled up a pistol and pointed it at officers. Officers took evasive action and took cover behind a nearby vehicle. Additional officers responded to the area in order to contain the suspect in case he decided to walk or attempted to drive out of the area. The female resident of the house was able to get out via the backyard. The male suspect remained on the porch, but would comply with officer’s commands to put the gun down. Eventually the individual put the weapon down and walked out to the middle of the yard where he was taken into custody. Officers recovered a semi-automatic 9mm from the steps of the porch and a partially loaded magazine in his pocket. The suspect is identified as Travis Blaine Soileau W/M 45. Soileau was arrested and booked into the Potter County Correction Center on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon."
