The Amber Alert issued just after 2pm today in Amarillo, Lubbock and surrounding areas in Texas has been resolved with the girl believed to have been kidnapped found unharmed.  15 year old Nomei Velazquez was found by an off duty Lubbock police officer at a motel in Lubbock.  Both the victim and the suspect are now in custody, with the suspected abductor in the kidnapping now in the hands of police.

"Nomei Velazquez was found unharmed at a Lubbock motel, according to Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges.

Her suspected abductor, 28-year-old Juan Fabian Arenas Delacruz, is in police custody, Bridges said.

Agents with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI joined forced with the Lubbock Police Department to solve the case, said Sgt. Jason Lewis of the Lubbock Police Department.

An Amber Alert for Velazquez was issued about 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, that included information about Delacruz’s vehicle – A silver 2004 Volkswagen Passat.

LPD officer Jacob Flores spotted the vehicle at a construction site about 3 p.m. on the Texas Tech campus near the intersection of 19th Street and Indiana Avenue and waited for other officers to arrive before moving forward.

When officers found a person of interest at the site, a foot chase ensued during which Flores was injured.

The person, who has not been identified, was arrested; however Lewis said he is not a suspect in the abduction.

Lewis could not provide more details on the case as he spoke to media near the intersection of 19th Street and Knoxville Avenue."
