What did you want to be when you grew up? We get asked that a lot as a child. We had an answer. Did anyone get to live that dream?

Well I wanted to be the first woman in Major League Baseball. I grew up in Chicago so baseball was BIG there. I moved to Canyon when I was twelve so I pretty much knew that dream was out the window. Or was it?

True I never got to play Major League Baseball that is true. I did, though, get the chance to work for the Amarillo Sox. That was a dream come true. I managed not only the ticket window but was also in charge of on field games and interviews.

For this South Side Chicago girl working anywhere near the baseball field was the highlight of my years. Then I got the call. OK....it wasn't to come in and save the game for them....it was not to live out that dream.

I got called in to be a ball girl for a few games. It was towards the end of the season and our normal ball girls returned to school for the year. So we were short and we just couldn't have that. So I got the chance to be on the field and play the role.

Is it a tough job? No. Was it a blast? Yes! I even got to one night sit near the opposing team's dugout and visit with ex-Texas Ranger Jeff Russell. He was managing the team at the time.

So even though my dream of becoming the first girl in Major League Baseball did not pan out for me. Sometimes those dreams take you other places that end up being just as fulfilling. I know I will not forget this time in my life.
