First, around 12m last night, as an employee of the Taco Bell at 34th & Washington was taking out the trash, he was approached by an armed "would-be" robber.  This employee did some serious manning up!  We'll get to that here in a minute, because after the failed attempt of robbing Taco Bell, what is believed to be the same suspect robbed the Whataburger on Amarillo Blvd.

I'll start by commending the Taco Bell employee, who was approached by the armed gunman, who demanded he be let inside and given access to the safe.  The employee told him the safe was locked, and then shut the door.  This left him outside with the armed robber.  Guts over fear?  HELL YES!

The suspect fled, and about 4 hours later, a very similar described suspect robbed Whataburger on Amarillo Blvd, and after he got done, he locked the employees in the walk in cooler, making away with the money from the registers and the safe.

No injuries are reported at this time, but Taco Bell BETTER give their employee a bonus for not only saving them from being robbed, but putting his own life in danger to keep his coworkers safe!  And I'm not talking about free bean burritos for a year, he deserves some kind of medal!

Amarillo Police (Taco Bell incident)

"The suspect left the area on foot toward the north and east.  Officers flooded the area and a K-9 was called to try and track the suspect.  The suspect was not located.  The suspect was a black male, about 5’10” tall and slim build.  He was wearing dark sweat pants, a sweat shirt with a hood pulled up over his head, and a hockey type mask over his face.  Nothing was taken and no one was injured in this robbery."

(Whataburger Incident)

"Officers were dispatched to the restaurant located at 3620 IH-40 E on a hold up alarm.  Employees reported that an unknown race male entered the business and walked behind the counter.  He was armed with a handgun.  He forced the two employees to give him the money from the cash registers and the store safe.  He then forced the two employees into the food cooler.  The suspect was described as wearing black hooded sweat top, black pants, black gloves and a white hockey mask.  He left the store on foot in an unknown direction.  An undetermined amount of cash was taken.  No one was injured and there are no arrests at this time"
