Sorry, Katy Perry. While the pop singer expressed interest in taking over the role of Lydia in Tim Burton's developing 'Beetlejuice 2,' original actress Winona Ryder might be coming aboard the project to reprise the part instead.

"I'm kind of sworn to secrecy," Ryder told The Daily Beast, "But it sounds like it might be happening." While this, obviously, doesn't qualify as official confirmation, Ryder has had a longstanding relationship with Burton, making a reunion not out of the realm of possibilities. Aside from directing her in the original 'Beetlejuice,' Burton also enlisted Ryder for 'Edward Scissorhands' and his more recent 'Frankenweenie.'

Aside from Burton himself, original star Michael Keaton will likely reprise his role as the iconic, over-the-top Beetlejuice, in the sequel. While it's still in early development, Ryder assures us 'Beetlejuice 2' is definitely not a remake:

It's 27 years later. And I have to say, I love Lydia [Deetz, Ryder's teenage goth character] so much. She was such a huge part of me. I would be really interested in what she is doing 27 years later.

Burton’s original starred Gina Davis and Alec Baldwin as a recently deceased couple who haunt their former home. To scare away the new inhabitants (Catharine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones and Winona Ryder), they enlist the help of Beetlejuice (Keaton), a “bio-exorcist” from the underworld. "I would never go near [a sequel] if it was not Tim and Michael because those guys, I love."
