We've been eating Pink Slime for years and because someone got all high and mighty on Facebook about how they are feeding it to kids, it's now cost our brothers and sisters the jobs they needed to keep their families fed here in the Texas Panhandle.  I'll admit, I helped fuel the fire, but in hindsight, it was a stupid of me.  I let the hype get to my brain, forgetting that I've been eating this Pink Slime my entire life and I'm perfectly healthy.

I mean seriously, we've all eaten hotdogs before and we all know what they contain.  They contain the scraps, all mashed up and molded into that famous hotdog shape.  It's American, it's delicious, and it's been around for a very long time.

But after that Pink Slime video hit the internet and they only focused on how school districts were ordering the meat filler and feeding it to kids, we all threw our arms up and were like "that's disgusting", forgetting ourselves and the fact that we eat these foods all the time.

I love potted meat, I love hotdogs and I've always loved school hamburgers!  Pink slime is meat!

Do you realize that in order to make up the amount of meat lost by discontinuing Pink Slime we'll have to increase our cattle count by the hundreds of thousands?  That's several hundred thousand more cows pumping methane into our air.  Several hundred thousand more cattle being mistreated and forced to live in less then poor quality conditions.

Yes, by bitching about Pink Slime and getting the nation all pissed off about it, we've only made things worse.

Locally, 200 people have lost their jobs at the BPI plant that solely focused on producing the meat filler.

Nationally, we'll cause more and more damage to our planet by canning the Pink Slime.  Because again, the demand will exceed the supply.

We all learned at a very young age that Native American's did not waste anything on their kills.  When they killed a buffalo, they ate every piece of meat they could, they even sucked the bone marrow out of the bones.  They used the bladders for canteens, the bones as tools and weapons and yes ate every single piece of the animal they could!  They didn't waste a single ounce of it.

If we keep on this path, we'll be guilty of wasting.  We need to step back, take a breath, and realize that it's not hurting us at all.  We also need to realize the truth behind it, the other side of the story.  The fact that we are simply utilizing every piece of the animal just like our ancestors did.

Waste not, want not.

On a side note, don't go losing your job anytime soon, because there are now 200 Texas Panhandle residents on the streets looking for work thanks to this Pink Slime issue.
