Angelina Jolie sent the nation -- nay, the world -- into shock yesterday (September 20) when she filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, requesting full physical custody of the couple's six children. But a new report claims Pitt is gearing up to fight for joint custody of their kids, instead.

Sources reportedly close to Pitt told TMZ the Benjamin Button actor maintains “there’s no chance” he’ll agree to Jolie’s terms, which would only grant him visitation rights.

The source also claims that Pitt remains adamant Jolie is a “great mother” and has no intention of trashing her in the press. And despite the rest of the world feeling blindsided by the split, sources tell TMZ Pitt saw it coming -- he and Jolie had several conversations about divorce over the past few months.

TMZ also reported yesterday that Jolie's decision to file had to do with Pitt's parenting methods, and has nothing to do with any outside sources causing a rift in their relationship.

The statement from Jolie's attorney, Robert Offer, seems to echo that report: "The decision was made of the health of the family. She will not be commenting and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."

Pitt later released his own statement to PEOPLE about the split, saying, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
