In February, Cargill closed the doors to it's Plainview processing plant leaving thousands without a job.  Monday they announced a partnership with Spartan Public Transportation to get those workers to the Friona plant for work.

Over 2,000 people lost their jobs when Cargill announced that they were closing their Plainview processing plant.  However, there were some who transferred to the Friona plant to keep their jobs.  The drive is 150 miles round trip and with the price of gas, it can get costly.

In fact, the trip was costing between $30 and $60 a day.  That can quickly add up, so Cargill, the city of Plainview and Spartan Public Transportation began working together to lower the cost for the employees.

On Monday, Cargill announced that they will be helping about 70 employees with transportation to and from the Friona plant.  This will help reduce their cost significantly and still contribute to Plainviews economy.

SPARTAN Transportation is a division of the nonprofit corporation South Plains Community Action Association.
