On Monday, the construction began on I-40, as crews work on the Georgia St. overpass and closed the east on-ramps at both Paramount and Georgia, making commuting along I-40 even worse than it already was.

Traffic is being diverted to the Crockett St. on-ramp, making the access road just as clogged as the highway.

Amarillo Globe News reports on the project:

Eastbound travelers on Interstate 40 will find the highway narrowed to two lanes during bridge joint repair work on the Crockett Street and Georgia Street overpasses.

Everything should be back to normal on I-40 by early August according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Keep in mind, they also have Hillside torn apart between Bell St. and Western St.  Making commuting through Amarillo a pain in the ass-burgers.

On top of that, there is road construction on Ross/Osage between 26th St. and I-40, it's highly congested over there so be very careful when traveling on Ross/Osage!

And finally, on 34th St. between Bell and Coulter, they have more road construction!

Basically, driving around Amarillo is going to suck for the next few months.  A lot of the major streets are under construction right now.  But hey, at least they are FINALLY fixing these streets!
