Amarillo Residents Getting Email Saying “Neighborhood Child Predator Alert In Your Area”
I kind of found this odd, I don't usually get emails of this nature, should I be afraid? Basically, the email reads "you are receiving this because there may be a risk of Sex Offender activity in your area". Then, in a nutshell, it says if I'd like to know who it is and where they live, to click the link...so I clicked the link. How many would you guess came up in the 79101 zip code?
I took this screen shot with my phone of the email, and I must admit, I got worried!
So I click the link and it starts by asking for my zip code and email address, okay not a big deal, I'd like the updates anyways.
It pops up that there are 631 Sex Offenders near my zip code, and then it wanted money. That's when I thought, typical, it shouldn't cost money to know this information so a parent can map out safe routes for their children and know what houses to tell them to stay away from! Am I crazy for thinking that?
Knowing this, I pursued a way to find registered sex offenders for free, and found a map! Turns out, my neighborhood has 2 in it, and they're blocks and blocks away. Needless to say, I'll never ask them to baby sit!
