I can't say my dog chewed it up, it was my cat!  No seriously, I threw it away yesterday and then dug it out of the trash can today.  Did you get a door knob hanger on your door stating "Notice, energy efficiency improvements are being done in your area"?  What is it?  Is it free?  Do you qualify for the Texas Energy Efficiency Program as an Xcel Energy customer living in Amarillo?

The answer is an overwhelmingly confusing maybe, probably not...  Well, okay the answer is:  You're going to have to make a phone call.  The message on the door knob hanger is kind of misleading!

See that "incentives paid by local electric delivery company"?  Sounds like it's paid for, right?  Why would they be hanging it on our doors and dropping it in our mailboxes if not?

Well, I did some digging, and got even more confused the deeper I dug.  Try and make sense of this here!

"If you aren't sure if you live within a qualifying TDU's service territory:

Look on your electic bill: The company you call when the lights go out is your Transmission & Distribution Utility (TDU). If your bill lists one of the below TDUs, you may be eligible to participate.  Some customers can also determine who their utility is by the Electric Service Identifier number (ESI ID) printed on their bill or meter.

AEP TCC:  100327894

AEP TNC:  102040497

Oncor:  1044372 or SESCO (also served by Oncor): 1017699

Call your REP: The company that sends your electric bill each month should be able to help.

Go to PowerToChoose.org to search for your TDU by zipcode.

Eligible TDUs and Respective Service Territories"

Look at that mess of double talk!  I understand Lil Wayne more than I understand that!

Anyways, following the end of the quoted above, it shows a map that has Xcel listed as our provider.  However, when you click on the portion highlighted as Xcel for our area, it appears that the portion of the Texas Panhandle we live in doesn't qualify.

So I clicked on the link (also provided in the quoted text above) that says "Power To Choose" and I searched several Amarillo zip codes, the following message popped up after every single one.

"No plans found. Your zip code may not be in a service area open to competition."

I know, you're losing your mind right about now, just stick with me for a second as I confuse you a tad more than try to clear it all up for you.

I took my search to Xcel's website, which left me feeling empty inside.  Apparently I need to make a phone call from their sponsor list, which "may or may not" have a "participating sponsor" that "may or may not charge".

Sweet action!

I've lost all my hair on my head in the past hour and I have accomplished an epic fail attempting to clear this up.  You're still going to have to make a phone call, but I'll save you some time in searching for the phone numbers at least!

This is what I got off Xcel Energy's website:
