A federal judge recently stirred up a ton of controversy when he ruled that Plan B, or the morning after pill, should be available over the counter to ladies of all ages.  But does having it available make teens more likely to have sex?

Plan B was approved by the FDA in 1999.  In 2006 it became available behind the counter without prescription for those 18 and older.  Then in 2009, the age was dropped to 17.  In 2011 a decision by Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, ordered girls under 17 to have a prescription in order to obtain the contraceptive.

There has been ton of debate about younger girls being able to get the pill.  Although most parents hate to think their child does it, teens do have sex.  On Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Edward Korman ruled that the morning after pill be available over the counter to ladies of any age.

As with any ruling that has to do with birth control, there is plenty of opposition that comes with it.  The hot question now is: Is this going to make teens more apt to have sex?

Hmmmm, that is a question that popped into my head for just a second.  In my opinion, I think not.  I feel that if parents do a good job on raising their kids, then their kids will make good decisions.  Like waiting to have sex.

I actually like the idea.  If you know anything about the reproduction process, you know that the sperm fertilizing the egg doesn't happen right away, but it does happen within days of having sex.  If you have to go in and get a prescription, you are wasting valuable time.

Don't get me wrong, I am not promoting teen sex or unprotected sex, but things happen.  Condoms can break or unwanted sex can occur.  Imagine your teen daughter coming home after a football game or party.  She is super upset and embarrassed.  Somebody forced themselves upon her.

The first thing that comes to mind is to kill the person who did this to her and of course call the cops.  But what if she has no idea who it was?  Would you want to risk her being pregnant?  I wouldn't!  And every minute that passes is valuable time wasted.  The sooner you take the pill the better the chances of it working.

So how do you feel?  Do you approve of the pill being available over the counter to ladies of all ages?
