Drag Race On I-40 In Amarillo Ends In Rollover Accident Killing One Woman-Facebook Reacts [POLL]

Over the weekend another car accident turns DEADLY! Saturday evening around 6pm I-40 was backed up for miles to a stand point for as long as 3 1/2 hours. Officers were called to the 1600 block of West I-40 in reports of a rollover accident.

Many witness were passed up by on I-40 by two vehicles drag racing down the highway at a very high speed. 78-year old Mearlene Hooker Scott the owner of a red suburban was headed westbound on I-40 when her vehicle was struck by a by a 2008 Pontiac G6, which caused Scott’s vehicle to flip and roll down the overpass embankment at West I-40 and Bowie. Scott was rushed to the local hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The owner of the Pontiac G6 18-year old Edwin Ortiz, fled the scene of the accident. Later that evening Ortiz and his vehicle were found in the area of West 16th and Lamar. Edwin Ortiz has been arrested and booked into Potter County Jail on charges of failure to stop and render aid and racing causing death.

The other vehicle also fled the scene and no reports on the whereabouts.

Here at KISS FM, we don’t know what to make of this story. On one hand you have an innocent woman that lost her life, and on the other you have two young lives changed forever.
