It turns out the small town is pretty green when it comes to transportation.

Save On Energy, an online resource for finding electricity and natural gas suppliers, analyzed information from the U.S. Census regarding the average daily commute across America. The information was gathered over five years.

"Green transportation" includes carpooling, biking, walking, and public transportation. These methods are proven to save money, reduce fuel dependence, and improve the air quality.

The survey grouped the top 10 large, medium, and small cities in America with the best environmentally-friendly transportation in America.

According to the survey, Dumas is the 8th most green small city for transportation. The reasoning is that Dumas is located halfway between Denver and Dallas, so most of the traffic is made up of travelers. Those travelers usually travel in pairs or groups, making Dumas high on the list for carpooling. In fact, 21% of the people in Dumas reported that they carpool regularly.

The Washington, D.C. - Arlington, VA - Alexandria, VA metropolitan area is the most green of the large cities in America. Pullman, Washington, is the greenest in the medium city group.
