Every year, we hear rumors of Amarillo Police doing DWI checkpoints during holidays, like the upcoming 4th of July weekend.  And every year, they are just that, rumors.  While DWI checkpoints won't be set up on the streets of Amarillo, you can expect to see an increase in officers on patrol.

This comes as a friendly warning from APD, encouraging those who plan to celebrate to do so responsibly.  Be the hero, be the designated driver for your friends!

Amarillo Police

"The Amarillo Police Department has received a Comprehensive Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant courtesy of the Texas Department of Transportation to compensate extra patrol officers to concentrate their enforcement efforts on impaired drivers, speeding violators, and seatbelt/child restraint violators."

If the fear of possibly killing someone, or yourself due to DWI doesn't frighten you, perhaps jail time or a suspended driver’s license, and as much as $17,000 or more in fines, legal fees, and other expenses will.

Accidents happen, that's a fact of life I know first hand.  However, accidents due to driving drunk can be avoided.

Plan accordingly, because I enjoy hearing from you when you call the request line and I don't want that to stop =)
