PREVIOUSLY POSTED TO NIXLE

On 9-10-14, at 4:04 AM, an APD officer drove up on a traffic accident that had just occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 2400 block of IH-40 East. This is east of Ross and west of the Nelson Street area. Officers determined that a WF pedestrian was crossing the interstate from north to south and was in the center lane when the collision happened. The first car to strike the woman was a 2004 Buick driven by a WM 60 of Amarillo. The pedestrian was then hit by a 2009 Chevrolet driven by a WF 31 of Amarillo. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Officers have been unable to determine why the woman was crossing the interstate. APD Traffic Investigations will attempt to determine if alcohol consumption by the pedestrian was a factor in the accident, though the pedestrian violation was the primary factor. Justice of the Peace Nancy Bosquez has ordered an autopsy. There is no indication of excessive speed or alcohol consumption by the vehicle drivers. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin."
