Halloween season is upon us. This is when we dust off our favorite scary movie, turn off the lights and scare ourselves a little. Here are the top 10 movies folks in Amarillo say they have to watch every Halloween.

IT

 

 

IT is the currently the number one movie in the country. It had a big opening weekend bringing in $123 million dollars. This is a reboot of the 1990 made for television movie based off of the Steven King novel of the same name. Those who have seen the new IT say it is terrifying. Pennywise the Dancing Clown is back and badder than ever.

Halloween

 

 

This John Carpenter movie came out in 1978 starring Jamie Lee Curtis. It is the story of Michael Myers, who killed his family at a young age. He breaks out the sanitarium to return to his home of Haddonfield. There he begins his murder spree all over again.

The first movie spawned 7 sequels and a reboot in 2007. That reboot had its own sequel. Even though it was scary, it didn’t have the same effect as the original.

Nightmare on Elm Street

 

 

The late great Wes Craven had a lot of scary movies that made a name for him. The one that stands out the most is Nightmare on Elm Street. Mostly because of its main character, Freddy Krueger. He would enter peoples dreams and kill them. Even though he was a fictional character, if watched any of these movies, you found it hard to sleep afterward.

Saw

 

 

This horror franchise started in 2004. The story revolves around John Kramer, also known as the Jigsaw killer. Rather than just killing his victims he makes them traps them in situations to make an awful decision that will decide if they live or die.

Scream

 

 

Another Wes Craven movie. Scream knew it was a horror movie and it told you the rules of horror. Then this movie broke all the rules.

Annabelle is a prequel to 2013’s The Conjuring. The movie did so well that prequel is got its own prequel.

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil

 

 

This comedy horror is about two hillbillies who are mistaken for killers by a group of clueless college students.

The Exorcist

 

 

The Exorcist came out in 1973. This supernatural horror film had a huge impact on popular culture. Winning awards years after its release. In 1999 it won Entertainment Weekly’s scariest movie of all time award. It has one of the most memorable movie themes too with Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield.

Friday The 13th

 

 

These movies focus on Jason Voorhees. As a boy, he drowned at Camp Crystal Lake. He returned from the dead and starts killing anyone who dares come to the campground. The original spawned many sequels and a reboot.

Hocus Pocus

 

 

Rounding off our list is a family favorite. Walt Disney’s Hocus Pocus starring Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker. This movie makes the list because of lot of us saw it as kids and will watch it again if it comes on TV now.
