One of the ways crooks steal your identity is through rummaging through your documents and getting personal information off of them. What about those annoying credit card applications you always get?  They can use them too.  The Amarillo Crime Stoppers and Student Crime Stoppers are holding a "Shred It" day this Saturday to help you get rid of all those documents. This event will be held at the United Market Street on Georgia from 10am - 2pm this Saturday.  This is a fundraising event for the Crime Stoppers Organizations. Bring all your documents and help protect yourself. These inclulde old checks, bank records, credit card bills, unused credit cards or credit card checks. These items should be shredded in a secure manner.

Plus, they will be recycling the paper bits too.  For every ton of paper that is recycled the following is saved:

  • 17 trees
  • 275 pounds of sulfur
  • 79 gallons of oil
  • 100 gallons of gasoline
  • 350 pounds of lime
  • 9,000 pounds of steam
  • 7,000 gallons of water
  • 4.000 kilowatt hours of electricity (enough to power the average U.S. home for five months)
  • 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space.

At last year's event, they shredded almost 16 tons of paper!

Help yourself and the environment and get your old documents shredded this Saturday!
