Homicide In The Small Town Of Lefors, TX – Just Outside Of Amarillo
Just south of Pampa, TX, there's Lefors, TX, a quite little town where it's not everyday you hear about authorities investigating a murder. A homicide case that may involve 1 or 2 citizens of Amarillo.
At approximately 12:20pm on New Years Day, 2013, Gray County Sheriffs Offices received a 911 call about a residence in Lefors.
When deputies arrived, they found 42 year old, Kristi Dawn Slatten, dead inside the house.
There was evidence of foul play and Deputies secured the scene and called in Texas Rangers to assist with the investigation.
According to authorities, the victims Chevrolet Avalanche was missing upon further investigation.
The vehicle was recovered later that afternoon by officers with the Panhandle Police Department, Carson County Sheriffs Office and Texas Highway Patrol, two miles outside of Panhandle.
Two men inside the vehicle were arrested.
Those 2 men they speak of are both from Amarillo. 28 year old Joseph Keith Rigo was arrested and booked on unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. While 47 year old Steve Preston Dean was booked on unrelated charges.
Both men were booked to Carson County Jail. At this time, no charges have been filed for the death of Slatten.
The investigation is ongoing and Gray County Sheriffs Department are asking anyone with information regarding the case to contact the department at 806-669-8022.
