Kendrick Lamar Leads Hip-Hop Nominations for 2019 Grammy Awards

Kendrick Lamar and the Top Dawg Entertainment squad hold the lead with the most hip-hop nominations for the 2019 Grammy Awards. Today (Dec. 7), singers Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monáe, Alessia Cara and Apple Music's Zane Lowe revealed the nominees during a ceremony on CBS This Morning. The top-tier singers and the Beats 1 radio host revealed the list of nods in the top Grammy categories including record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist.

K. Dot and the California-based label were nominated for their work on the Black Panther soundtrack. The compilation of songs featuring K. dot, SZA, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Zacari, 2 Chainz, Vince Staples, The Weeknd, Travis Scott and more claimed the nomination for Album of the Year. The lead single "All The Stars" with Kendrick and SZA nabbed Grammy nods for best Song Written for Visual Media and Rap/sung Performance. Kendrick's collaboration with Future, Jay Rock and James Blake "King's Dead" was also nominated for Best Rap Song. K. Dot is nominated for eight Grammys in total.

Trailing right behind him is Drake. The Toronto native's Scorpion LP was nominated for Album of the Year and Record of the Year for "God's Plan." Drake's first major single of 2018 also earned another nomination for Song of the Year and Best Rap Song. Drizzy is nominated for seven Grammys.
