Leaving Your Dog In The Car On A Hot Day

As the temperatures get hotter and hotter in Amarillo and across the Texas Panhandle, we all need to start thinking about when and where it's appropriate to take our furry friends with us. When you're making a quick run into the convenience store that will take only a minute or two, sure, leave your dog in the car, I get that and don't see a problem with it. However, when you're going to eat at a restaurant, as in this case, no! Not cool! You shouldn't leave your dog in the car with the windows rolled up in the heat while you sit inside a nice, air conditioned building, enjoying a meal for almost an hour!

I think it's up to us to speak for those that don't have a voice! Every single time you see a dog left in a car on a hot day, take a picture!

One day, the person that left their dog in their car will see a picture of their pet online, and feel ashamed of themselves. Hopefully, they'll learn their lesson!

I saw this little man sitting in a sweltering car yesterday, while the owner was nowhere in sight. I walked out of Guitar Center, saw the dog, and didn't think much of it. My wife and I walked to World Market and spent a good 20 minutes inside there, when we left and got back in our car, the dog was still sitting there in the car! Lord knows how long the dog was inside the car, windows rolled up, just baking.

My wife suggested we call the humane society, but I didn't want to. Here's why, the fact is, the owner of this dog definitely loves it. I'm sure the dog goes everywhere with its owner and they love each other a lot. Why would I want to separate them? I wouldn't...

I just think there are appropriate steps that can be taken when having your dog as a riding companion. The most important one being, if you're going to be making a stop that leaves your dog in the car for more than a few minutes, don't take your dog with you...

If you look closely, you'll see a bowl that I think is for water. I say "think" because there is no water in it!
