Man Shoots Himself At Woodland Elementary Parking Lot After Police Chase

Amarillo Police dispatchers received a phone call just after 4 a.m. Thursday morning about a burglar alarm going off at De Zavala Middle School which is located next to Woodlands Elementary. Police then arrived at De Zavala Middle School and found broken glass near a door. They began searching around and inside the middle school. That was when they noticed a man running out of the middle school and a police chase started.

The suspect ran to Woodlands Elementary and then started to fire one round with his pistol into the ground of the parking lot of the elementary school. The suspect then turned the gun around and killed himself.

At this time, police are unsure of his age and they want to be clear they did not draw their guns during this incident. Amarillo police are still investigating the scene suspect's name has not been released but we'll keep you updated on any further news.
