Considering many people look at their pets as family members, spending the money to send their remains to space doesn't surprise me.  Something like an extremely rich person naming their dog or cat as their primary beneficiary does.

Moving on, Celestis Inc. announce the start up of the Celestis Pets Rocket program, carrying cremated remains of dogs and cats to space.  A way for owners to celebrate the life of their pet as many do in honor and celebration of loved ones.

Celestis, based out of Houston, TX, already does this for human remains.

The cost for services for pets is about the same as that for a human, starting at $995.

"Celestis Pets is working with a California company, Into the Sunset Pet Transition Center of San Diego, for the doggie and kitty cremations.

Celestis for years has offered a rocket service that takes partial human remains into space and brings them back, including ashes of "Star Trek" TV show creator Gene Roddenberry."
