Bad news for Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams as a federal judge in California ordered a judgement of close to $5 million to the family of Marvin Gaye over the copyright infringement of their song "Blurred Lines"

According to Fox News, District Judge John A. Kronstadt said the two artists must pay the Gaye family jointly $2.9 million in damages.  Thicke gotta pay out $1.7 million and Williams gotta pay $357,631.

The final judgment was a reduction from the initial $7.4 million judgment.

Gaye's family sued them later that year stating the song was infringed from the song "Got To Give It Up" which was released in 1977.

Pharrell was displeased with the verdict saying,

I think the jury voted on emotion.  I feel like the verdict was based on emotion and not the real true issue, which was copyright infringement…There’s no copyright infringement.

Thicke and Williams' attorneys claimed the lawsuit went to far in protecting the generic elements of the song's style shared between the two tracks.

In other news Robin Thicke released a new song 'Testify."
