Single mom Kaitlyn Walls lost her new job at The Colony Daycare Center before she ever started it because of something she said on her Facebook page.

I think the reporter at CBS DFW said it best: this is a cautionary taleabout posting on social media.

After Walls was offered the job, she went on her Facebook page and said:

"I start my new job today but I absolutely hate working at daycares. LOL It's all good I just hate being around a lot of kids."

She says she was just "venting" and admitted she made a mistake after a representative at The Colony read them and called her to not bother coming in.

I don't have a problem with that; if you're already griping about your job before you start, that's not a good sign. Fair or not, you HAVE to know that what you say online is public and can easily spread.

But that's where the story took an ugly twist. Complete strangers started berating her online, calling her vile names and threatening her. This is where I have a problem.

How about this: mind your own business. Yes, she made a stupid mistake, but that doesn't mean people should pile on and use the language they did.

Bottom line: social media can be an ugly place. When used properly, it can be used to find missing children, raise money for great causes and get news to the public fast.

On the downside, there's bullying, harassment and invasion of privacy. I guess we just have to take the good with the bad.
