It is really important for women to get checked for breast cancer at an early age.  But many women face the problem of no money and no insurance.  Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center wants to help.

In today's day and age there is so much technology that cancer can be detected at an early, early stage.  And it is best to catch cancer early so that you can take care of it before it spreads.

Well it isn't that simple for everyone.  Maybe you can't afford insurance and the expense of having a mammogram can get costly.  Don't fret, Texas Tech wants to help.  They are teaming up with United Supermarkets and the WISE Women program of the Amarillo Area Breast Health Coalition to offer free cancer screenings.

They will conduct breast cancer education and outreach events in four locations across the Texas Panhandle.  Of course, women must be eligible.  Once they have determined eligibility, the no-cost mammograms will be funded by a grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.

The locations are as follows:

4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, United Supermarket, 1420 N. Hobart St., Pampa

3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, United Supermarket, 3400 River Road, Amarillo

4 to 6 p.m. May 30, United Supermarket, 1414 W. Wilson St., Borger

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 31, United Supermarket, 2802 U.S. Highway 83, Perryton

Women need to bring a few things to United to see if they qualify.  They need to first be a Texas resident, provide proof of address, be uninsured, have a valid photo ID and provide income verification or proof they receive assistance.

Usually women over 40 are urged to get a mammogram, but early detection is best so you may want to get one at an earlier age, especially if it runs in the family.
