The railroad that ran through Amarillo helped attract merchants, cattle buyers, and settlers. A hospital, an independent school district, an electric service, a trolley system, a public library, and a rowdy bowery were established during the first ten years of Amarillo.

Amarillo continued to grow and expand with more hospitals, college campuses, news stations gas, oil, and airports. This helped Amarillo to become the 14th biggest city in Texas and the largest city in the Texas Panhandle.
