It's been a discussion for a few years, with a final decision made.  Students at WTAMU in Canyon, TX will no longer have to worry about looking both ways before crossing the street, at least on 26th street.  On August 25th, the street will be permanently closed to vehicles, with no cars, trucks or SUV's driving on it.

Being the most concentrated residential area of the university, the decision was made to minimize the amount of pedestrian and vehicle mixed traffic.

Gate will be placed to block off the street, a bill that set the university back about $61,000, and they will remain closed for the majority of the year, aside from when it's move in or move out time for students.

Making the university a more pedestrian friendly facility, the gates will be going up soon, and are promised to be decorative.

In the meantime, barricades will be placed to block off the street from traffic.
