Wyclef Jean spoke out on Twitter about being handcuffed and detained near a Los Angeles recording studio after allegedly being mistaken for a local gas station robber.

The artist was falsely arrested by West Hollywood deputies early Tuesday morning, March 21, in a case of mistaken identity, the Hollywood Reporter writes. After the incident, Jean posted a video on social media of himself being detained, commenting, "LAPD another case of mistaken identity. Black man with red bandana robbed a gas station as I was in the studio working but I'm in handcuffs?"

The LAPD confirmed that while their officers were not involved in the arrest, deputies within the West Hollywood division of the police department were at fault for the error.

Jean continued to slam the sheriff's department on Twitter after his release, tweeting, "I was asked by the police to put my hands up. Then I was told do not move. I was instantly hand cuffed before being asked to identify myself."

"As some one who has law enforcers in my family, I was appalled by this behavior of the LAPD," he added in another tweet. "I am sure no father wants his sons or daughters to see him in Handcuffs especially if he is innocent."
