A young girl was hit at the San Jacinto and Western intersection while crossing Western St.  She was in a school zone, crossing at the crosswalk, and her guardian angel was definitely watching over her!  She was transported to a local hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.  This poses the question:  Do drivers respect school zones?

I had a concerned parent, who also works at a local hospital, reach out to me on Facebook with the following...

Yesterday a little girl got hit by a car on Western by the Sam Houston middle school.  Why don't people have respect for school zones?  Is 20 miles slow enough?  Do they need to lower the speed in school zones to 10-15mph?  I am a mom of two beautiful girls, and you are a dad.  It just breaks my heart when I see kids sick or hurt at the Hospital!  I ask about that little girl and I thank God she had an angel over her, because they sent her home yesterday.

So, I ask the question, should the speed limit be changed in school zones?

"On 4-9-14, at 7:44 AM, officers were sent to the intersection of San Jacinto and Western on a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.  Officers found that a WF juvenile was crossing Western when she was stuck by a red 2004 Saturn that was southbound on Western.  The juvenile was conscious and able to speak to people at the scene, and was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.  The male driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for failure to grant right of way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk."
