Ever wondered where the word "tattoo" came from?  The word tattoo is from the Polynesian word tatau, meaning "correct, workmanlike". In the 18th century, it was spelled "tattow". The explorer James Cook brought the word tattoo (or how he spelled it "tattaw") to Europe when he returned from a voyage to Tahiti and New Zealand in 1769.

Joseph Banks, a man on Captain Cook's ship, wrote about tattooing in his journal. "I shall now mention the way they mark themselves indelibly, each of them is so marked by their humour or disposition".

So hide those tats and get a job you hippie! ;-)
