Yesterday, December 11th, 2013, a traffic collision took place on I-40W that ultimately claimed the life of one of the drivers involved.  65 year old Jackie Maloney Keeney of Amarillo was traveling West on I-40 when she struck an enclosed box trailer being pulled by a semi-truck.  Her car traveled off the road and onto the grass median where it caught fire.  She was taken to the hospital, and later transported to Lubbock UMC for burn treatment.  At 2:20pm, her body couldn't fight anymore, and she was pronounced dead.

"UPDATE 12-11-13 4:45pm; At approximately 1420 hours today, Keeney died as a result of her injuries. An autopsy has been ordered and the accident remains under investigation.

Original Release; On December 11, 2013 at approximately 2:36am, officers were dispatched to a minor crash in the 7700 block of West I-40 proper westbound. Upon their arrival they discovered a car on fire in the grass median. It was determined that a 2006 Nissan Altima driven by Jackie Maloney Keeney, WF, 65 of Amarillo had been west bound on I-40. She struck an enclosed box trailer that was being pulled by a 2006 Freightliner driven by Russell Pringle, WM, 48 of Springfield, Missouri. After impacting the trailer the Nissan left the road, drove through the grass median, then caught fire. Keeney was transported to a local area hospital for burns she received in the blaze. She was later air lifted to Lubbock UMC for treatment. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept."
