In short, there is no ban for popping fireworks for 4th of July 2014 in Amarillo.  However, the same ordinance that has been in place for about 30 years still stands.  Restrictions simply say not to be popping, possessing, storing, selling, manufacturing or handling of any sort within the Amarillo city limits.  I know that seems like a lot, but it's the same law we've followed for a very long time.  Nothing new, and it's not a ban, so fun can be had!

The Amarillo Police Dept, along with Fire Dept, give their reason for reinforcing the ordinance...

"The goal of this program is to safely and properly dispose of explosives and hazardous substances.  The prevention of injuries to both residents and firefighters is a priority.  Amnesty from Fire Code violations is available for the voluntary surrender of these items"

For 2013 APD issued 27 citations for fireworks violations. 17 for Possession and 10 for Discharging.
