We've all heard a dog is a man's best friend.  We've also heard that Police officers are here to protect us.  So what happens when a police officers shows up to your address by mistake and shoots your dog?  Unfortunately that happened over the weekend.

I am not a pet owner, but I know many people whose dogs are their family.  They love them like their own children.  So if someone was to hurt their dog, they would be angry.  But what if it was a police officer?

Over the weekend police officer, Thomas Griffin, in Austin, Texas was dispatched to an address for a domestic disturbance.  Unknowingly he was sent to the wrong address.

He arrived to the home of Austinite Michael Paxton who was outside playing with his dog Cisco.  The officer asked him to put his hands up.  Right then his dog came around the corner barking when the officer shot it dead.

Paxton, like any dog lover, was very upset.  The Austin police department admitted that there is no procedure in place when dealing with animals.  As of today, officer Griffin is on full duty.

Paxton wants a system in place.  There is no way for the police to give him back what they took, but he wants to make sure it doesn't happen again.  He has even set up a Facebook page in support, Justice for Cisco.  The page currently has over 36,000 likes.

I'm not sure how to feel about this situation.  The officer was dispatched for a domestic disturbance so he needed to be cautious, but did he need his gun drawn?  It is a sad situation on both ends.  And of course there will always be to sides.

Here is the a news video from KVUE News in Austin.  Watch it and tell me what you think.

How would you feel if this happened to your pet?
