We certainly have had some rain, now haven't we?

We also have more rain in the forecast in many parts of Texas. There is one problem, and that is the rainwater that collects in puddles, buckets, old tires, and a million other spots. That rainwater turns into a virtual hot tub for mosquitos.

That's right, there is virtually no way that we won't have a very active mosquito season. Here's the really bad news, West Nile has already been found in Texas. For most people, the virus isn't a problem. Most West Nile victims just have headaches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or a rash. If you have any of those symptoms, you should probably see a doctor.

It does get far more serious with other people. Seven people died in 2022 from West Nile virus. It just doesn't seem fair, you try to lead a good life and a mosquito bite takes you out.

Let's also drop back a few steps, even if you don't get a disease, getting bit by a mosquito sucks. I personally get a nice itchy welt that lasts a couple of days. I'm pretty sure you'd probably rather not bit as well.

By now you probably know how to avoid bites, but being proactive really helps everybody. Just remember that mosquito eggs float on top of the water. Just kicking a pail with standing water can reduce mosquitos (even though it would be better if you poured it out).

So let's all celebrate the rain while we have it, but remember there are consequences and they are most likely right around the corner.

Spectacular & Elegant Texas Home Will Have You Chasing Waterfalls
