This year, we've been very fortunate with the amount of rain we've gotten. While we're all grateful for it, it can cause a bit of havoc in the area. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the canyon.

Trail Closures: What’s Affected In Palo Duro Canyon
Every time it rains in the Texas Panhandle, there's a good chance park alerts will be issued for Palo Duro Canyon State Park regarding trails. Those alerts usually list trails that are closed.

With the rains we've received recently, it isn't just one or two trails closed in the canyon. As of this moment, all trails are closed. Even the road between the Cactus day-use area and Fortress Campground is closed.
Palo Duro Canyon State Park took to social media to give an update today on the condition of trails, and they even posted some photos of the flooding. If you were hoping to hit the trails this weekend, it looks like you're out of luck.
Trail Recovery & Safety At Palo Duro Canyon
The trails can take a while to dry out enough to be able to be used again. One of the main concerns is the destruction of the trails as people trudge through the mud. Another is the safety of hikers in the canyon.
