Snow In Amarillo For Thanksgiving? What You Need To Know.
The weather in Amarillo is finally starting to feel appropriate for the time of year. There's a chill in the air, and leaves are falling. Weather forecasts say it will get even colder as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday. With the colder weather comes a chance for snow in the panhandle. Here's what you need to know.
Will There Be Snow In Amarillo On Thanksgiving 2024?
It has been a very long time since I last saw snow on Thanksgiving without going to Colorado to find it. Something about snow falling while you eat turkey and watch football is nice, and I would love to have something like that this year. If you're like me, we might be in luck.
The National Weather Service Amarillo put out an update today regarding snow chances for Thanksgiving. Believe it or not, there's a chance we could see snow in Amarillo. If the forecast holds true, it would happen sometime Wednesday night going into Thanksgiving morning.
In the northwestern part of the panhandle, there's a better chance for measurable snow. In Amarillo, we might see some flurries but nothing substantial is in the forecast at the moment. The best thing we all can do is keep an eye on the weather ahead of any traveling we need to do on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day.
If You Have To Drive Over Thanksgiving, Prepare For Winter Conditions
If we wind up getting some wintery weather over Thanksgiving, make sure you prepare for the journey. Have your emergency kit ready in your vehicle. You'll want to make sure you have:
- First Aid Kit
- Bottled Water
- Snacks
- Blankets
- Way To Charge Your Phone
Having these things will help you out immensely if you find yourself getting into a tight spot while traveling during winter weather. You'll need a way to keep warm and keep your phone charged if you have to wait for help. If you're going to be stuck for a while, have some snacks and water on hand. A first aid kit is always a good idea to have on hand. Road flares and reflectors are also good to keep on you during the winter months.
Travel safe and enjoy your Thanksgiving. Who knows? We might see some snow.
