You Need To Get Ready For A Texas Panhandle Heatwave
The weather in the Texas panhandle can be crazy. It hasn't been out of the ordinary this year to experience all four seasons in a single week. This Thursday, April 17, we could see another instance of wild Texas panhandle weather in Amarillo.

The only good news is that the chance of hitting 100 or more on Thursday is pretty low in Amarillo. No matter how you slice it, it looks like we're going to get a dose of summer heat in the middle of April when the temperatures are usually in the 70s.
Prepare Yourself For Brutal Summer Heat This Week
It feels like it's a little early to be talking about being safe in the summer heat, but 2025 has been anything but typical when it comes to the weather. You'll want to make sure you plan for the heat.

Don't leave pets or children in vehicles. If you have to be outside, make sure you are staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and take breaks in the shade. If you have plans to be out at Palo Duro Canyon, avoid hiking in the heat of the day. If it's hot outside the canyon, it's even hotter on the trails.
I don't even know what to do anymore. I've got all of my winter clothes and summer clothes mixed in my closet. I keep a beanie and sweater handy, even if I'm wearing shorts. Hopefully, the weather will figure out what season it is soon and stay in that lane.
