One of the things that seem to be a constant in Amarillo is road construction. I swear, we see those orange cones more than any other city in America. Just the other day, I was headed home from work and the on-ramp to I-40 at Bell St. was all of a sudden closed. I just rolled my eyes.

So with all this construction, it makes me wonder if we feel there's even been any improvement to the streets of Amarillo. I mean, I don't know that I've really seen it. Maybe in a spot here and there.

Turns out I'm not alone. The City of Amarillo had a survey done by the ETC Institute, and it turns out Amarillo residents think there has been nothing done with the streets.

Only 22% of residents polled are satisfied with the maintenance of the sidewalks and roads in the city. I can't say I blame them. I feel like even though it looks like they're working on stuff, they're neglecting a lot that needs to be done.

Among some of the other roadway stuff, people were polled on how they felt the overall flow of traffic was in the city. Only 30% were favorable towards that one, basically saying that traffic jams up too often and doesn't move well.

That one I'd agree with. I've never seen traffic light patterns be so messy in a city I've lived in. Not to mention there are lights I sit at for a good three minutes if I get there at the wrong time. There's no reason it should take that long.

The poll also delved into a lot of different areas of the city such as public safety, building safety/code enforcement, quality of life services, maintenance, and communication. You can see the results of all those categories by clicking here.
