Delivery drivers in Amarillo see a lot. They get asked to deliver food in all sorts of crazy conditions. You want your food even if it is flooding in Amarillo or snowing up to the hood of our cars.

Your food or other deliverables are important to you, and you are not leaving your house. We understand you don't want to. Maybe you can't. There are reasons you are asking us to be the ones picking up and delivering your food.

We live off tips. A lot of people say if you want to make money, then get a real job. A lot of us have full-time jobs and do this to supplement our income. So when we get done with an eight-hour day and then continue to work to make ends meet or save for a vacation, it can be a slap in the face to see someone not tip. Unless you own up to it.

Honesty is the Best Policy in Amarillo

I have been delivering for almost two years, and I give kudos to the girl I recently delivered to. She couldn't afford to tip. She told me from the beginning. I respected that about her. I didn't decline her order. I didn't shame her for not tipping. I had the utmost respect because she didn't lie.

It's better than the gentlemen who I see his names and addresses pop up quite a lot now and always decline because at least own up to not tipping. Don't tell us you will when you have no plans to. That is a form of tip-baiting. You get our hopes up, and you know you will not be giving us even a dollar.

Recently, this high school girl straight up told me she couldn't tip. That got me back to thinking about my own daughter when she was that age. I would hope someone would appreciate her honesty and help her out. I get it. We were all there. At least she told me.

We communicated the whole time because her order was taking longer because DoorDash gave me a stacked order. The restaurant I picked up the food from was taking a long time. I already had her drinks and let her know what was going on.

This customer, tip or not, was extremely nice. That makes things like this so much nicer. When I got to her house, she handed me a dollar and said that was all she could get together. I wasn't expecting that,t and I even told her she didn't have to.

As delivery drivers, we would rather you be honest than lie to us. We like a surprise like this over the one who lied and said you would get a tip, and didn't. Kudos to the good customers in Amarillo.
