Dasher Diary: Another Make This Make Sense Amarillo
There are a lot of things I love about DoorDashing. I mean the extra money is nice. Getting to meet some great people is a fun part too. Running into old friends is always fun. Sometimes I get free food and I will never pass that up. That is one of the perks that sometimes happen. Not often, but it does happen.
Of course, it's a job so there are negatives too. I'm not a big fan of the non-tippers. I hate when the restaurant makes me do their job and get the drinks ready. I don't like the long miles I put on my car. There are always good and bad with any job.
Oh, but what really gets me is when DoorDash does something that doesn't make sense. If you are at your normal job you can usually go to your boss and find out what is going on. You can explain the situation and they can fix it or just tell you to do it. OK, with DoorDash that is not an option. You just have to do it regardless of how dumb it is. I mean if you want the money for the job you do it. Or you can cancel the job but no money comes that way.
Recently I had one of those orders that just didn't make any sense. I was sitting in front of the Five Guys on Georgia Street when an order came through. I was to pick up from Pizza Hut, ok that was easy enough. The drop-off was near 58th and Georgia. That was pretty much a straight shot so I accepted it.
That is when things started to not make sense. See, I didn't look to see which Pizza Hut I was picking up from. Since I was dropping off near 58th and Georgia I just assumed I was picking up from the Pizza Hut on Georgia. You know what assuming does.
I was to pick up this order from the Pizza Hut on Gem Lake Road. That was a ten minute drive from where I was. Then I was to turn back around and head back another sixteen minutes from where I was to where I started and off to the customers house. It made no sense. After I picked up the pizza I drove down Avondale to Olsen and on my way to 34th and Georgia up to 58th. When I could have just left Five Guys, stopped at Pizza Hut on Georgia and a straight shot to 58th.
A delivery that could have taken me fifteen minutes, tops, and that is if the pizza wasn't ready ended up taking me over thirty minutes. Now I am not mad because I was signed up to be paid by time so they were paying me.
It just means the customer had to wait longer for their pizza. I thought maybe the Pizza Hut on Georgia was closed or had shut off their DoorDash deliveries but on my way back from this delivery I drove right by the Pizza Hut on Georgia. Not only were they open but a DoorDasher was walking out with their bright red bag and a pizza.
So really nothing about this makes any kind of sense.
