Dasher Diary: The Amarillo Delivery I Wanted to Decline
As a Dasher in Amarillo, you have the ability to decline orders. There are different reasons you may not want to do a delivery. It may be that the restaurant always takes a long time. Maybe you don't want to waste forty minutes on a long drive when you know the tip was not worth it.
Sometimes you just have the fear of what you are picking up. I usually just get deliveries to pick up food and bring it to a hungry customer. Recently I had a delivery to pick up from a pet store.
There are reasons I wanted to decline this order. I have seen horror stories of a delivery driver showing up to the store and having to pick up a couple of fifty-pound bags of dog food. I get it. You don't want to pick that up yourself. Some of us really don't either because most of the time there is not an option for the customer to tip.
So you already know you are not making anything off of the fact that you are getting one heck of a workout. Plus the odds are you are lugging these bags up to a third-floor apartment. It's just one of those days.
I ended up accepting that order and fearing what it was I was picking up. The description wasn't very clear and I knew I was picking up four of whatever they ordered. So it could have been a nightmare.
On the way the customer messaged me and let me know that she had a cash tip for me. That was great. She even told me there was nowhere for her to add a tip. I knew it. So it was very nice for her to realize that and want to tip. Trust me I was very appreciative.
I arrived at the store and asked for the order. The order that I was dreading. The order that I made sure I parked as close as possible in case I was lugging out four bags of pet food.
The order was for food. I got that much right. The four items fit neatly in one plastic bag.
A nice surprise for me. This delivery was for four cans of cat food. So I guess I will not automatically decline orders to pet stores. Well, that is until that day I arrive and pick up a bag of live crickets or mice.
