One of the improvements coming to our city will be in Medi Park. If you love to go fishing, you will be excited about this change: a new fishing area that will literally put you deep in the middle of things.
Medi Park is adding a new pier on the northeast end of the park. This pier will give a new way to fish. You will be able to walk out to the deep end of the lake and up your fishing game.
The T-shaped pier will be about 45 feet wide and will also include lighting, guide rails, seating, and plans for a kayak launch. Though this improvement will only take a day or two there is no word on when the project will start. So the wait is on.
So if you have noticed some of the work starting, they have started pouring concrete. The cool thing is that the city was awarded the Habitat and Angler Access grant for $56,000, in order to build the fishing pier. This pier will be ADA compliant which will open up the fishing world to even more people in Amarillo. The total cost of the project will be around $82,000 with the remaining funds coming from the Parks and Rec Department.
This is a good change coming to Amarillo even for those who don't go out to fish. Just taking a walk out on the pier and getting a nice look over the lake will make it all worth it.
