If you live in a city long enough, you manage to find all the best places to go when it comes to drinks and eats. I'm not talking about the places everyone else goes because they can see them from the road or because a popular place is constantly recommended.

I'm talking about those hole-in-the-wall, tucked away in a strip mall or somewhere similar type of places.

Call them hidden secrets. Every city has them, and Amarillo is no different. You want these places, NEED these places. There's only so many times one can continue to eat at the same place. We need something different, and these hidden secrets are always the best ones to find.

Someone posed the question on Reddit looking for these types of places, and man did people come rushing forward with suggestions. I read through every single one of them. I mean, I've only been here a little over two years, so I'm starting to look for these types of places.

The ones below are the few that garnered multiple mentions through the comments section, and will be places I no doubt will be hitting up soon.

PORK N THINGS BBQ

With it being tucked away by the airport, that alone makes it one of those places most wouldn't think of. With such a large part of the Amarillo population living in the middle of the city, you don't tend to venture that far out unless you NEED to. Well, according to the comments, going to Pork N Things is a reason you need to venture out that way.

They serve up BBQ until its sold out, which happens pretty often from what I can tell, offer free beer (yes, really), allow you to bring your own beverage in so you can indulge in more BBQ, and apparently have TRUE spicy BBQ sauce unlike a lot of places that advertise theirs as spicy. These are all reasons it's first on my list to hit up.

ICHIBAN NOODLE BAR & ASIAN CUISINE

Ok, I know it seems like we have a lot of different Asian cuisine types of restaurants in Amarillo, so it's important to find the best ones to hit up. Ichiban popped up in the comments multiple times and it was all about their noodles.

They've got everything from flavorful to spicy dishes, and the Cashew Chicken on the menu kind of stands out to me. You have to get there at the right time though because they split the hours they're open on a daily basis. They open at 11am for lunch then close the doors at 2pm to get ready for the dinner crowd. The doors open back up for another three hours starting at 5pm.

SINALOA HOT DOGS AND MEXICAN FOOD

Another cuisine that pops up a ton in Amarillo is Mexican food. There are SO MANY places you can choose from, so I have a tendency to look for something different and off the wall. Sinaloa is THAT spot.

You ever heard of a Mexican Hot Dog? Me either, but Sinaloa grabbed my attention with it. The photo I found from their menu has it slathered in some different sauces you wouldn't think about covering one with, and I'm here for it. They've got some solid other offerings as well including Tortas and Pollo Asado.
