So many different places to eat and have a beverage in Amarillo it's crazy, right? Everyone has their favorites, but none of them really have that Cheers atmosphere, you know, the whole "where everybody know your name" kind of vibe.

You have to find the proverbial "dive bar" sort of atmosphere for that. Sometimes they're in plain view, sometimes they look like abandoned buildings.

I actually have a couple of buildings very close to my house that LOOK like bars, but I've never known if they were actually operational. They look like they've been there for decades and they have signs on them representing what they are, but again, they almost look abandoned.

Then one evening, I make a run to a convenience store and I see like 8-10 cars in the parking lot. Wait, you mean these bars are actually open? I start to do a little research and I find that at least one of them for sure is functional and relatively popular too.

It got me thinking, where are the best dive bars in Amarillo? Let's take a look at a few that get some solid reviews and mentions.

STUMPY'S

One look at the building from the outside and you'd think for sure there's no way there are being drinks slung in this place. Sure, there's a sign that says it's a bar, but you see the graffiti on the front of the building and just assume it's abandoned and there's nothing going on there.

Wrong. Stumpy's is actually open for business and seems to be a relatively popular spot for people in the area to go to. This is the epitome of a dive bar. I need to check it out.

ROUNDER'S CLUB

Every time I head into Market Street off Georgia St, I drive past this place as I leave. Sometimes the parking lot is empty, sometimes it's jam-packed. Really depends on the day and time I drive past it. I've never known exactly what it was though.

Turns out, it's a pretty cool dive bar with a solid amount of room inside, tables to chill at, and some pool tables to shoot on. Maybe I'll stop in after hitting Market Street one of these days.

POLLY'S PUB

Located off of SW 10th Ave, Polly's is a pretty popular dive bar for the locals to hit up. Again, you look at the outside and just KNOW what you're going to find inside. Drinks flowing and people who know each other extremely well.

The old school wood bar, a few random circular tables, and of course, pool tables. It has the perfect dive bar atmosphere. Oh yeah, they have pool tournaments there too if your skills are sharp enough. You could walk out with some extra cash in your pocket.
