Some things in Amarillo are worth celebrating. We love to hear about new places opening in our city. We celebrate every new business opening, that's always a win for our city.

We love to celebrate wins any way we can. We complain during construction, but once it's done, the joy is real.  We can't contain our excitement.

The last one I remember celebrating was the Crockett Bridge Underpass Project. It seemed to go on forever and ultimately closed lanes in all directions on I-40. So it was a headache for a lot of us. When it finally was done we celebrated.

I know it seems like I am exaggerating about how excited we were, but I am not. I remember the day that project was officially done and the joy we all felt. A lot of us who take I-40 and had to deal with multiple lane closures and the inability to cross under using Crockett Street became thrilled to see it finished.

Why Amarillo’s Airport Parking Project Mattered

There is another project that we can celebrate being finished. It was last year when it started and gave a lot of headaches to folks travelling for the holidays. The project at Rick Husband International Airport left a lot of us trying to figure out a plan.

I travelled last Thanksgiving and remember the headache of trying to figure out how to navigate parking and the different lanes that would be closed. Even the cell phone lot was closed down at the time. I ended up getting a ride to the airport so I didn't have to stress about it.

What’s Now Open at Rick Husband International

Just in time for the holiday travel this year, the good news about the parking garage was shared from Rick Husband International Airport:

Big update: All parking lots are now open and ready for your next trip.
Flying in or out of Amarillo is even easier now with every lot fully open, including garage, outdoor, and preferred options.
Here’s what’s available:
  • Garage Parking (641 covered spaces) – closest to the terminal
  • Preferred Parking (104 spaces) – right next to the lower-level entrance
  • Outdoor Parking (635 spots) – great value and now fully accessible

What Travelers Should Know for the Holidays

This is a major improvement for holiday travelers.Travel has once again become easy in and out of Amarillo. That has always been the great thing about travelling.

The airport was easy to navigate before. Now that the parking construction project is done, we can get back to the stress-free travel out of our city again.
