Why Gas Prices in Amarillo Are Lower Than the Texas Average

According to AAA Texas, Texas Panhandle drivers are paying some of the lowest prices in Texas. We're even down two cents from last week. Gas in Amarillo is $2.35, and Lubbock is even cheaper at $2.27 per gallon. The average per-gallon price in Texas right now is $2.50.

Then you remember a giant Arctic storm tore through Texas and half of the United States. Unfortunately, those prices will rise after dropping due to the aftereffects of the Arctic storm that passed through January 23 - January 26.

When winter storms hit, the refineries and crude production are disrupted. The supply chain is also in disarray when storms like this occur. So the supply is lower, and the demand rises, and therefore the cost goes up.

Will Gas Prices Rise in the Texas Panhandle After the Freeze

Although the Texas Panhandle and West Texas don't see the jump in prices that the rest of Texas does, we still feel the pinch in our bank accounts.

The good news is these disruptions do not mean permanent price hikes. These price hikes are due to the weather and will not be long-term. Once the refineries are back to normal production, the prices will be where they were before the storm.
