Bullets Fly in Another Amarillo Shooting, One Dead
It's no wonder that Amarillo was named one of the most dangerous cities in Texas.
You would think that with a city our size, we wouldn't have the crime we do, WRONG! Our city's crime rate seems to be going up, up and up, every year.
That's why each time something happens, it seems less shocking.
On Thursday, January 26th at 5:45 AM the Amarillo Police Department received a call about gunshots in the 4100 block of south Travis. When APD arrived at the scene, they found 24-year-old Markell Damarion Toombs-Reed lying in the street with a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, Mr. Toombs-Reed was pronounced dead at the location of the shooting.
No arrests have been made in this incident and the names of the suspects have not been released. At this time the Amarillo Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the shooting.

It looks like this will be the first homicide for Amarillo in 2023.
Last year the first homicide happened on January 25, 2022.
Let's just hope we can keep the homicide rate under 20 this year since Amarillo almost hit 30 homicides in 2022. I'm sure the citizens would greatly appreciate a drop in crime in Bomb City rather than a rise. However, we've already gotten 2023 off to a great start.
