After a wild card one-and-done in the playoffs last season, rumors are now swirling around the DFW area that Mike McCarthy could be let go if the team does not make the Super Bowl this season.

Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said in a press conference after the playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers in January that he was "confident" McCarthy would be returning as head coach of the Cowboys in 2022 but could not say any further than that. McCarthy was kept for the 2022 season but it is the last season of his 5-year contract.

Offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn were sought after for other head coach vacancies around the league after the 2021 season but ultimately neither one took any other job, which leaves the door open for Dan Quinn to be the successor of McCarthy if the Cowboys miss the playoffs or get ousted before getting to the Super Bowl this season.

Sportswriters all over the country and especially in the Dallas area are saying that upper management is definitely fond of Dan Quinn and they don't want to see him leave for another team, so if there is a head coaching vacancy after this season look for him to get the head coaching job in 2023 to keep him in Dallas.

Dan Quinn was fired from the Atlanta Falcons after week 5 of the 2020 season which Quinn has said was not a good feeling, but would he accept the head coaching offer from Dallas since they had the best year defensively that they have had in many years?

Some Dallas fans are hoping for such a scenario, I am of the opinion that after a Super Bowl win with the Green Bay Packers, maybe McCarthy might not need to be exiled, but if we come up short this season, it could be time to move on.

Dan Quinn is a good coach and with the weapons in Dallas that he has, maybe a head coaching change would be just what the Cowboys need to once again put them in Super Bowl 58.

We will have to see what happens once playoffs begin next month.
